Athletes Who Snapped

Rae Carruth. The former Carolina Panthers wide receiver is serving an 18- to 24-year prison bid for conspiring to kill his pregnant girlfriend, Cherica Adams, in 1999. Carruth, a 1997 first-round draft pick, paid a group of men to shoot into Adams’ car, hitting her four times. She died one month after giving birth to her and Carruth’s son.

Jovan Belcher isn't the first pro sportsman to devolve into violence

When Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally shot the 22-year-old mother of his daughter and then killed himself, he joined a long list of athletes who have turned to violence. Some have beaten their wives and girlfriends. Others have killed unsuspecting motorists. But they all share in common the inability to keep their hands to themselves.
