Atlanta School Cheating Scandal Cost $1.7 Million

Money spent on attorney fees.
One year after the lid was blown on the Atlanta Public School cheating scandal, the district has tallied up $1.7 million in costs.
Most of the money is being spent on lawyer fees for outside cases where teachers are fighting to clear their names.
“It’s an unfortunate chapter, but it’s part of our history now, and it’s something we have to get through,” said Stephen Alford, executive director of communications to the AJC. “So while we would prefer not to have to spend money on these hearings, we have to. We owe it to the parents, the stakeholders and the employees to go through this process.”
