California Pushes Social Media Privacy Laws

Tired of your boss or your school sweating you about access to your Facebook page or YouTube channel? The state of California has your back.

Starting in the new year, California will enforce new laws prohibiting employers and universities from demanding passwords to social media accounts belonging to potential hires and students.

“When AP broke a story about how violation of online privacy has become a trend nationally, we wanted to put an immediate stop to it and stop it from reaching to California,” Adam J. Keigwin, state Capitol-based chief of staff of Sen. Leland Yee’s office, told ABCNews.com.
