Coca-Cola Launches Anti-Obesity Campaign

But defends itself
Coca-Cola is launching a campaign to combat obesity. The new two-minute ad, called "Coming Together," reminds viewers and consumers that gaining weight comes from consuming excessive calories from any number of sources, not just soda. "Beating obesity will take action by all of us, based on one simple common sense fact: All calories count. No matter where they come from. Including Coca-Cola and everything else with calories. And if you eat and drink more calories than you burn off, you'll gain weight," a narrator is heard saying. Americans drink an average of 45 gallons of soda a year. A 20 oz. bottle of Coke contains 65g of sugar, but the American Heart Association recommends a daily sugar intake of only 37.5 grams. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention place American obesity levels at 35.7 percent, up from 13 percent in 1962. (Today)
