Colorado Theater Shooting Families Reject Reopening Event

Rampage victims say theater owners were silent after tragedy
Families of the victims in the Aurora, Colo. movie theater massacre aren’t ready to see a movie at the Century multiplex where it took place, and especially not by invitation from the owners of the theater. Citing months of the silence and no written condolences from theater company Cinemark, the families are organizing a boycott of a Jan. 17 reopening. The 12-screen multiplex has been closed sine the shooting. Families say they were emailed an invitation to a “special evening of remembrance,” which some have called a thoughtless, insulting gesture. “It’s like people going back to a slaughterhouse, as far as I am concerned,” said Sandy Phillips, whose 24-year-old daughter, Jessica Ghawi, died in the shooting. The July 20 shooting rampage was carried out by 25-year-old James Holmes, who gunned down 12 people and injured at least 58 others, during a midnight screening of a Batman movie. (Denver Post)
