Cross-eyed Arsonist's Distinctive Look Gets Him Arrested
1 year ago
Police recognized his "glance" from security video
Remember when rioters were raising hell and setting stuff on fire in London last August? Well, one rioter, Andrew Burls, caused some major damage when he set fires that caused $1 million worth of damage and left six people homeless. He was able to escape consequence, up until recently.
The 23-year old arsonist is cross-eyed. He was caught in the act on security cameras, covering all but his eyes with a bandana, as most criminals do. But, because officers recognized his distinctive glance, they were able to track him down and pin him with the crime.
Initially, Burls denied that it was him in the video but it was hard to convince the arresting officers otherwise.
"If My Lord was to compare that with a photograph of Mr Burls himself when he was arrested, My Lord can see the distinctive eyes, and the direction in which they point in the photograph," said prosecutor Tom Forster.
For his fire-setting talents, Burls has been sentenced to eight years in jail. Maybe he should've worn sunglasses.
