Weekend tragedy results in arrest and manslaughter of team linebacker

On Saturday, tragedy struck the NFL again. Dallas Cowboys nose guard Josh Brent and his teammate Jerry Brown were involved in a car accident that killed Brown, resulting in Brent’s arrest and intoxication manslaughter chargers. Veteran players were speaking out about bad behavior in the NFL. "This NFL brotherhood, people are not only going to hold us accountable, we are going to be the ones more in the spotlight,” said San Diego Charges’s Takeo Spikes. "We've all done it (drive intoxicated). But it's to a point now where maybe you were ignorant and didn't know any better or felt you were invincible. We've had enough of death to show us this is what you do not do. It's bigger than you. Somebody else is always affected.'' Brown and Brent, former college football teammates, were speeding when Brent’s car hit a curb and flipped on early Saturday morning, police said. Brent released a statement through his agent last Saturday: “I am devastated and filled with grief,” the statement said. “Filled with grief for the loss of my close friend and teammate, Jerry Brown. I am also grief-stricken for his family, friends and all who were blessed enough to have known him. I will live with this horrific and tragic loss every day for the rest of my life. My prayers are with his family, our teammates and his friends at this time." Brent has since been released from jail. (USA Today)
