The thin-line between self-defense and murder

The case of Daniel Adkins Jr. is reminding many of the case of Trayvon Martin.

Adkins Jr., 29, was shot and killed by the driver of an SUV. Adkins Jr., who was mentally disabled, was standing at a Taco Bell when an SUV driver nearly hit him. Adkins Jr. began screaming at the driver who then shot him dead.

The driver, who remains unnamed and has not been arrested, claimed that Adkins Jr. was carrying a 3 foot long metal pipe and began swinging at his car. Despite the fact that the driver was safely inside the car, he said he felt he was in danger.

Adkins Jr, who was with his dog, Lady, stood in front of the car and that's why the shooter chose to not drive away.

When reporters attempted to interview the shooter at his home, his father stood behind the door and refused to open saying he had a gun in his hand.
