Does Martin Luther King, Jr. Still Matter?

I believe MLK still matters because he's a symbol of African American achievement and all the things we fought for in the 50s and 60s. But I think for the younger generation, he's just that. Just a symbol. They don't really have a connection to the rights he actually fought for, such as education. They don't understand what he had to go through. They think it's a joke. Abby Adler, 28

Loop 21 asks whether the iconic civil rights figure is still relevant, 45 years after his death

Forty-five years after his death from an assassin's bullet in Memphis, Tenn., does Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy still resonate with the younger generation, who weren't alive during or don't remember his work in the civil rights movement? Loop 21 asked people in downtown Brooklyn, NY that question. The responses were passionate, hopeful and, in some cases, surprising.
