Her own son is allergic to several popular foods

Actress Kym Whitley is adding another notch to her belt. The comedian is launching a new line of “Don’t Feed Me” T-shirts for kids that will alert caregivers and others of their allergies. Decorated with checkboxes and blank spaces, parents can fill in the appropriate details with a pen or marker. Whitley first made the shirts for her son Joshua, 2, who wore it to day care after a nanny accidentally fed him peanut butter. He is also allergic to chicken, corn, shellfish and peaches. Whitley is also producing clear bags that have the same "Don't Feed Me" warning and can hold Benadryl, Epi-Pens, and other allergy aids. At least 3 million American children have a food or digestive allergy. Many allergies are age-dependent as small children have mostly egg, milk and peanut allergies, while older children might react to peanuts, shellfish and tree nuts. Death from food allergies are rare and, on average, a child with food allergies experiences a reaction once or twice a year. Dr. Wayne Shreffler, director of the Food Allergy Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, said he has ”mixed feelings” about the T-shirts because they could become a bully magnet. You can buy one for $10 at DontFeedMe.org. (ABC News)
