'Elmo' Accuser's Troubled Past and Identity Revealed Online

Sheldon Stephens has long rap sheet

The Smoking Gun has revealed the identity of the man who falsely accused Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash of having sex with him when he was a teen.

The 24-year-old man's name is Sheldon Stephens, an aspiring model who is far from a model citizen.

The Harrisburgh, Pennsylvania native's past includes an arrest for allegedly robbing a former boss of a $250,000 gold necklace at knifepoint in 2009. He has also been arrested for passing a bad check and wreckless driving.

He seems to have inherited his troubled traits from his mother who was arrested in 2011 for allegedly stabbing her husband with scissors. She is currently out on bail awaiting trial for attempted murder.

Stephens false claim that Clash had sex with him when he was a teenager has led to the veteran puppetmaster taking a leave of absence from Sesame Street and somewhat tainting the image that people had of the popular character he created.
