Reports say she smashed and shot out the car windows of an ex-girlfriend
The woman who was once heralded as "the female Jordan" is sitting inside a Fulton Country, Georgia jail for taking a bad shot.
Ex-WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw has turned herself in after a violent dispute with WNBA player Jennifer Lacy. Police say that Holdsclaw shot into Lacy's car after busting out a window.
The incident happened Thursday night after Holdsclaw met Lacy at a gym parking lot. Lacy says Holdsclaw asked her if she could put some items in her car. When Lacy left the gym she says she smelled gasoline and noticed Holdsclaw following her. When she pulled over to go to a friends house, Holdsclaw got out of her car and confronted Lacy, busting a window out with a baseball bat and then shooting into the car. Lacy was not harmed.
It is still unclear as to what sparked the clash, but Lacy has revealed she and Holdsclaw used to date. They were also teammates in 2009 when both played for the Atlanta Dream.
Holdsclaw is a former University of Tennessee women's basketball legend who still holds many records to this day. She was the number one overall pick in the 1999 WNBA Draft, but her promising career was derailed by her struggles with depression. She last played for the San Antonio Silver Stars in 2010. Earlier this year she released a book about her life titled, "Breaking Through: Beating The Odds Shot After Shot."
Holdsclaw has been officially charged with aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and reckless conduct, police said. She remained in jail Friday morning on $10,000 bond.
