1 in 3 Couples Blaming Facebook in Divorce

Up from 2009

Facebook was implicated as a reason in a third of all divorce filings last year, according to Divorce-Online, a survey by a British legal service.

This number is up from 2009 when only 1 in 5 divorce cases in the U.S. blamed the social network.

A spokesperson of the survey said, “If someone wants to have an affair or flirt with the opposite sex then that's easiest place to do it."

Even U.S. divorce attorneys agree that Facebook is increasingly becoming a factor in marriage crack-ups.

A couple who authored the book ‘Facebook and Your Marriage’ warn: “People feel bolder behind a screen than in person. People type and press ‘Send’ faster than common sense can kick in, and people feed off the rush they’re feeling rather than rationally thinking about what they’re doing.’
