Brian Jones will not go to prison
The first out of a dozen defendants in the FAMU hazing case has been sentenced. For his involvement in last year's death of drum major Robert Champion, Brian Jones will spend more than two years under close supervision. He was not sentenced to prison. Instead, Jones was given six months of community control and two years of probation. He's also required to perform 200 hours of community service. Judge Marc Lubet said Jones's role in the hazing death was relatively minimal as Jones did not beat or hit Champion. Defense attorney Alisia Adamson noted that only two of the 90 witnesses even said he was on the bus where Champion was beaten to death. Eleven other band members are awaiting trial on felony hazing charges. The maximum penalty for the charge is five years in prison. (AP)
