HBCU sets eyes on USA's prize

Gabby Douglas is being recruited by Spelman College, one of the most prestigious black universities in the country. It has been reported that the school president Beverly Daniel Tatum flew to London to better her chances of snagging the American Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast for the Georgia all-girls school. Tatum gave 16-year-old Douglas a Spelman gift bag containing a congratulatory note, school t-shirt and a CD with a song produced by the college. Tatum said, "A young woman who has demonstrated the drive and discipline needed to achieve world-class excellence is likely to have what it takes to be successful at Spelman, and we would welcome her interest in the college."
