40% of Homeless LGBT Youth Are Kicked Out By Family

Rejection, abuse, neglect lead to youths running away
Not every parent is as welcoming as Frank Ocean's mom to the thought of their child being gay or bisexual.
A new Williams Institute study of youth shelters says as many as 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT. Most of them wind up homeless because they either ran away from home or were kicked out by parents who didn't approve of their lifestyle.
The numbers were compiled from October 2011 and March 2012 from 354 agencies that provide shelter to the homeless.

Abuse at the home and being too old for foster care were also reasons why so many wind up homeless.
By and large though, insufficient state, local funding, and federal funding to help them was the biggest problem.
