Gay Marriage Becomes Legal In Maryland

New year, new law.

Maryland has become the first state below the Mason-Dixie line to allow gay marriage.

Same-sex couples in Maryland have been able to get marriage licenses since Dec. 6, but they did not take effect until New Year's Day.

Religious organizations that do not approve however, are not forced to host ceremonies.
