Generation X Fears They'll Never Recover From Recession
6 months ago
Studies show it's indeed a struggle
Though the economy is improving, Generation X still fears they won't be able to make up for ground lost in the deep economic downturn of 2007 to 2009. Many people in their 30s and 40s feel pessimistic about their ability to achieve the American dream or feel as financially secure as their parents. These concerns aren't unwarranted as a recent study revealed that Gen Xers are shouldering the most debt of any age group, with average mortgage, credit card and other debt totaling more than $111,000. And a Census Bureau report released this year found that people ages 35 to 44 saw the biggest decline in net worth—59 percent—between 2005 and 2010 (when it reached $33,200). (NBC News)
