Zimmerman's black friend says he said "goon" on tape as term of endearment

Chuck D said it best when he rapped "every brotha ain't a brother."

Check out this clip of Joe Oliver, friend of George Zimmerman, defending his friend on ABC News.

After reports surfaced that Zimmerman may have been heard dropping an ethnic slur on a 911 call that he made before confronting Trayvon Martin and eventually killing him, people have sought to see the shooting be classified as a hate crime.

We're not here to defend Zimmerman, but, on the tape it is hard to decipher if he is calling Martin a "fucking coon" or "fucking goon." Either way, he wasn't saying it in a nice way. Especially considering that he shot and killed him soon after.

But, Oliver, who is obviously one of Zimmerman's supporters claiming that he is not racist, says that Zimmerman said "goon" and that he may have meant it in the same way that his teenage daughter uses it.

"The word in question, it's a difference between a C and a G from what I understand," he says, mentioning that he conferred with his young daughter on the matter. "And 'goon' is apparently a term of endearment in the high schools these days. I don't know of anyone younger than 40 who uses 'coon' as a racial epitaph."

So, let's get this right? Oliver believes that Zimmerman used the word "goon" not "coon." That's understandable. But to infer that he was using it as a term of endearment before he shot him? Yeah right?

Obviously, Oliver's daughter listens to a lot of Plies, a chart-topping rapper who is very popular in the Florida area and is known to call himself a "goon" and wear a variety of chains featuring the term. Depending on the angle of the chain (and the content of some of his songs) it's hard to tell sometimes if Plies is calling himself a goon or coon also.

We don't know if a Plies CD was playing in Zimmerman's SUV when he decided to hop out and chase Trayvon, but there are two things we all can agree on. Zimmerman followed Martin and shot him, he's the goon. Secondly, just like the Plies song says, Zimmerman should be arrested and given "100 Years."

Speaking of which, Plies just dropped a new tribute track about Trayvon, "We Are Trayvon."
