Legal team hopes to use site to distribute information

George Zimmerman's legal team are rolling out a new website.

With www.GZLEGALCASE.com, Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara says that they plan to "identify, discredit, and eliminate fraudulent websites and social profiles that pretend to represent George Zimmerman or his legal defense team. A critical part of this effort is establishing the credibility of official digital properties that the media and the public can trust as the official voice for what is legitimate and what is not. We are also working hard to identify negative, hate- or prejudice- based web presence and will report those to the proper authorities."

The site will also serve as a headquarters for all things Zimmerman as his legal team works to improve his public image and control the messages being put out.

"It is also important to understand that we cannot and will not comment about the facts of the case, as that is the purpose of the courts and legal process," O'Mara says. "Part of our presence online is to discourage public speculation about the facts of the case."

The site will also allow people to stop by and voice their opinions on the case and ask the legal team questions along the way. There are also accompanying twitter and facebook pages.

"We understand that it is unusual for a legal defense to maintain a social media presence on behalf of a defendant, but we also acknowledge that this is a very unusual case," says O'Mara.

This site comes just one week after it was revealed that Zimmerman had raised nearly a quarter-million dollars through his other website. In a ruling last week, courts demanded that Zimmerman reveal who made PayPal donations, while O'Mara vowed that all and any other sites collecting funds for Zimmerman would be shut down.

Zimmerman is currently free and in hiding on $150,000 bond as he awaits trial for shooting and killing unarmed 17-year old Trayvon Martin.
