Family denies, then confirms it was a name his black friends gave him

Over the last couple of weeks, the media has had a field day with Trayvon Martin's tweets and Facebook updates. Now, George Zimmerman's online identity is in the spotlight.

The Daily Caller has learned that Zimmerman once had a Myspace page where his nickname/username was "Datniggytb."

Initially, a family member the The DC contacted denied such a page and said that Zimmerman doesn't even use the service. Then in another conversation they confirmed that it was Zimmerman's page, but that he had not used it in a long time. However, the "last login" on the page said April 11, 2012. By the time The DC reached out to the Zimmerman family member again, the page was deleted.

As debate still swirls around if Zimmerman used any racial slurs on the 911 call he made before shooting Martin, the family member denies that "datniggy" is a racial slur. Instead, they say that it is a nickname that his black friends gave him. No word on if one of those black friends was Joe Oliver.

They also say that the "tb" part comes from another nickname, "tugboat," that was given to him because of his size.

Photos on the page featured Zimmerman in a photograph with his wife, wearing a Los Angeles Fire Department skully. The profile also had a Latin quote "Si vis pacem, Para bellum" which translates to "If you wish for peace, prepare for war."
