Rivera's Remarks on Trayvon Martin cause division in family
Geraldo Rivera's son is disappointed in his father's controversial remarks about Trayvon Martin.
The Fox News contributor tweeted Friday, "My own son just wrote to say he's ashamed of my position.”
Rivera received harsh criticism for saying that the hoodie worn by teen Trayvon Martin when he was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer was just as much to blame as the man that shot him.
He added on Twitter, "Still I feel parents must do whatever they can to keep their kids safe."
Rivera’s son and the rest of his family expressed deep disapproval.
"Gabriel broke my heart … He just told me for the first time in his life he's ashamed," he told Politico, adding his son believed he had "gone viral for all the wrong reasons."
Rivera said he wrote his son Gabriel back and tried to explain his position that "every hoodie should come with a warning like cigarettes, 'caution wearing this could get you killed.'"
Did Rivera take a moment to think that maybe Trayvon was wearing his hoodie because it was raining…?
