After Apple's own app fails, a favorite returns

Google Maps is back! The app appeared in Apple's app store late Wednesday night after being ditched by the tech giant earlier this year. Apple removed Google Maps from its iOS 6 operating system and attempted to create its own maps app, but it was widely panned by users after they realized it offered bizarre directions, misinformation and poor imaging. The manager behind the failed app was subsequently fired. The revamped Google Maps now offers turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation, uses Zagat listings and its own local search for rating restaurants and retailers, public transit directions, and 36-degree street view integration.
