Hailing a Cab via Smartphone Coming Soon?
Would you try it?
New Yorkers may be able to begin hailing a cab using their smartphone. Members of the city's Taxi & Limousine Commission voted Thursday on whether or not to allow people to nab a ride electronically using downloaded apps that would link customers with drivers. If the vote is yes, TLC Commissioner David Yassky assures the city would lay down some ground rules to still accommodate those using the old-fashioned way of raising their arm to stop a cab. But the commissioner says that as long as the technology exists, it should be available to customers and drivers. Until now, the city has banned taxis from prearranging rides. (MSNBC)
