A teacher allegedly engaged in sex act with student
An Ivy League teacher at a prestigious Bronx prep school has been charged for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with one of his female students.
According to the Daily News, Ex-Riverdale Country School instructor Richard Hovan, 30, engaged in oral sex with a 16-year-old student at his Chelsea condo, court records show. He also sent a slew of emails and texts messages and made inappropriate phone calls to her, officials said.
The relationship lasted from December 2010 to May 2011, according to court documents.
On Monday, Hovan was indicted in Manhattan Criminal Court on two felony counts of criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child.
Hovan was fired from his job in May 2011 when the Manhattan District Attorney’s office first received a complaint alleging foul play between him and the student.
Hovan holds an accomplished resume that includes a master’s degree from Columbia University. He also taught calculus and geometry at the $40,000 a year Bronx school.
