Former congresswoman, wounded by shooter, satisfied with plea agreement
Jared Lee Loughner has pleaded guilty to the deadly 2011 shooting rampage in a Tucson, Ariz. supermarket parking lot and to the attempted assassination of then-Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Federal Judge Larry Burns had previously found Loughner mentally ill to stand trial, but ruled Tuesday that months of forced medication to treat schizophrenia made Loughner competent enough to understand the extent of the charges. Loughner is expected spend the rest of his life in prison, without parole, for killing six and for wounding several others, including Giffords. The former congresswoman’s husband, Mark Kelly, said she is satisfied with Tuesday’s plea agreement. (Associated Press)
