Is Jay-Z Stingy?: Made $63 Million, Only Donates $6k To His Own Charity
H to the Izzo catching flack for not giving more
One drawback to being rich and famous is that the world is always in your pockets. The Daily recently went digging into Jay-Z's and found that in 2010 he made $63 million but only donated $6,431 to his Shawn Carter Foundation.
They also inquired about any 2011 charitable contributions but found that those records are not available yet.
“Jay, along with his family, provided office support, overhead support, [mother] Mrs. Gloria Carter’s 100% effort and time, computers, FedEx expenses, accounting, and treasury function support. This was at no cost to the charity,” Jay-Z's publicist Jana Fleishman said in an email to The Daily.
Those costs rounded out to $7,306.
The Daily also points out that the average American donates 3.5% of their income to charity. Churches and religious groups say that 10% is how much people should give. Compared to those standards, Jay-Z (who Forbes says is worth $420 million) gave just 0.01% to his own charity.
Somewhere Beanie Sigel is saying "see, I told you!"
Jay-Z himself however admits that he's still getting used to this whole charity thing.
“We really started it at a grass-roots level,” he said in an interview in December 2011. “And now we’re trying to organize it at this level and have it make sense.”
