National online poll yields interesting data about study habits
Although it may be hard for parents and teachers to believe, “Angry Birds”-playing teenagers are also using their iPhones and Android devices to do homework, according to a survey by TRU released Wednesday. Latino students are using them for homework at a higher rate than African American and white students, the survey found. TRU says 39 percent of students ages 11 to 14 years old used smartphones at home for schoolwork, while 31 percent used a tablet and nearly 65 percent used laptops. Smartphones were used by 49 percent of Hispanics surveyed, 42 percent of African-Americans and 36 percent of whites. TRU, a research firm that specializes in data on pre-teens, teens and twenty-somethings, polled 1,000 students around the country. The company did not speculate on reasons for the high rate of usage for Hispanics. (Reuters)
