Law School Applications to Hit 30-Year Low

Experts point to high tuition, debt, lack of jobs
Law school applications are set to reach a 30-year low for the current academic year. In 2004 there were 100,000 applicants to law schools; this year there are likely to be 54,000. And as of this month, there were 30,000 applicants to law schools for the fall, a 20 percent decrease from the same time last year and a 38 percent decline from 2010. The drastic drop reflects the increased concern over soaring tuition, the crushing student debt and the diminishing prospects of employment upon graduation as many schools do not provide employees to elite firms in major cities. Last spring, only 55 percent of those who finished law school found full-time jobs (within nine months of graduating) that required passage of the bar exam. (NYTimes)
