Male Jurors Are Biased Against Obese Women [study]

Men not as likely to find lean women guilty of crimes.

According to new Yale University study, obese women have a fat chance of being found not guilty by male jurors.

The study found that male jurors are more likely to find obese women guilty when put on trial. Lean women were least likely to be found guilty and the men in the study didn't show any bias against their own gender.

ABC News writes:

Researchers showed 471 study participants a photo of one of four people – a lean woman, an obese woman, a lean man or an obese man – and asked them to determine whether that person was guilty of an imaginary check fraud crime on a scale of 1 to 5. Men were more likely to find the obese woman guilty than the lean woman, and the results were statistically significant.

As disturbing as this may sound, we do still have comfort in knowing that evidence is still the leading factor in juries decisions.
