Mamie Rearden: Oldest Living US Citizen Dies at 114
The South Carolina homemaker and community person leaves behind 10 children.
Mamie Rearden was the country’s oldest person for only two weeks before she died Wednesday at a hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Her daughters Sara Rearden and Janie Ruth Osborne said their mother broke her hip three weeks ago. Rearden, who lived in South Carolina, was more than a year younger than the world’s oldest person, 115-year-old Jiroemon Kimura of Japan.
When discussing Mamie Reardon’s life, Sara Reardon conveyed how her mother’s simple role as a housewife and community person made her children “just as proud” as if she had been president of a bank or college. Mamie Reardon was married to her husband Oacy for 59 years until his death in 1979 and raised 11 children, 10 of whom survive. (NewsOne)
