On Monday, a boy and his father were shot in Watts (near Los Angeles) by an attacker on a bike, the LA Times reports. The boy later died at an area hospital, after surgery failed to save him.
The boy’s father was listed in stable condition on Monday night.

From the LAT story:
The father, who is in his 20s, was cradling the boy in his arms on a sidewalk near 105th and Hickory streets when an assailant on a bike opened fire about 7:50 p.m., police said.
Police said the area suffered a rash of shootings last year between a Latino and African American gang that left several people dead.
