Effort will engage schools that lack daily physical fitness curriculum
What happened to P.E. in schools? A lot of it is gone. First lady Michelle Obama is hoping to do something about that. On Thursday, she and sports shoe-maker Nike announced a $50 million partnership, “Let’s Move Active Schools,” to engage 50,000 schools and bring P.E. back to the schoolyard. According to the White House, the initiative will provide “simple steps and tools to help schools create active environments where students get 60 minutes of physical activity before, during and after the school day.” Several other organizations are combining to donate an additional $20 million. They include the GENYOUth Foundation, ChildObesity180, Kaiser Permanente and the General Mills Foundation. Big ups! (Washington Post)
