Unidentified source leaks info to media
NBC News has fired a producer for an error made in editing the 911 recording of George Zimmerman’s call to police the night of Travyon Martin’s killing.
The producer’s dismissal comes after NBC issued an apology for airing an abridged version of the recording on the “Today Show.” NBC’s version implied that Zimmerman voluntarily told dispatchers that Martin was black. In actuality, the 911 dispatcher asked Zimmerman first what Martin’s race was; he simply answered the question.
A person with direct knowledge of the matter spoke to media on conditions of anonymity. The person was not authorized to talk about the situation publicly, USA Today reported. Nor was the identity of the producer given.
The mishap was brought to attention by conservative media watchdog site NewsBusters. In an apology to views, NBC News promised that "necessary steps" would be taken "to prevent this from happening in the future.”
