South African president wishes the international hero a swift recovery
Anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela is recuperating after hospitalization from a recurring lung infection, says South African President Jacob Zuma. During a ceremony for the renaming of an airport in Bloemfontein, Zuma gave an update on the 94-year-old’s condition. "[Mandela] is recuperating from a lung infection at a Pretoria hospital,” Zuma said. “We wish him a speedy recovery and assure him yet again, of the love and support of many in the country and abroad." Mandela was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. He is revered for being a leader against racist white rule in South Africa and for advocating forgiveness once he was released from a 27-year prison term in 1990. Mandela served one five-year term as president of South Africa. (Associated Press)
