New York Newspaper Publishes Map Of Gun Owners, Citizens Outraged
Names on map now worried about robberies.
In an effort to advance the nation's conversation about gun control, New York newspaper The Journal News published an interactive map featuring the names of people registered to legally own firearms in Westchester and Rockland counties.
The map is comprised of red dots, where if hovered over, will reveal the name and location of the person with the license. The information does not indicate what kind of gun they have, or if they even have a gun at the moment, just that they are allowed to have one.
Disgruntled readers have threatened to cancel their subscriptions or boycott the paper all together. The information was obtained though the Freedom of Information Act.
Some citizens have expressed worry that the map will encourage criminals to commit more robberies.
