CEO breaks silence at conference
A week after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., the National Rifle Association held a news conference Friday morning to address what laws, if any, need to be enacted to combat the nation's gun violence. CEO Wayne LaPierre called for all schools have at least one police officer on site, suggesting that the teachers and staff at Sandy Hook couldn't stop shooter Adam Lanza because none of them were armed. He asked, "What if Adam Lanza had been confronted by a trained, armed security guard?" LaPierre continued, "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." He also asked why the news media doesn't call more attention to the manufacturers of "vicious, violent video games." LaPierre was twice interrupted by protestors--one who yelled that the NRA "is killing our children" and another who shouted that the NRA "has blood on its hands." Both were escorted out. (NPR)
