A safe-sex assembly will be held, as well

A Brooklyn high school will give condoms out to their students at prom next month.

On June 7, Bedford-Stuyvesant Preparatory High School students will leave their party with the free party favor, according to the NY Daily News.

The school's principal Darryl Rascoe was motivated to offer the condoms to combat exposure to sexually transmitted diseases like HIV -- and to try to cut down on teen pregnancies.

He said, “This is necessary. It’s practical and it’s the right thing to do. There are several kids in our school who already have children. We’re fooling ourselves if we think we can leave this up to teams to be proactive."

The school will host a safe-sex assembly before distributing the condoms.

Only 25 kids are expected to attend the prom, which will be held at an off-site venue that has yet to be determined.
