Occupy Wall Street Movement Plans Nationwide "Mayday" Protests

Movement plans to skip school and refuse to use banks or purchase items.

New York City and the world are bracing themselves for the Occupy Wall Street movement's biggest event since 2011.

The group is planning a series of nationwide demonstrations billed as a "general strike" today.

The day, touted as one "without" the 99 percent, will have Occupy groups in New York, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay area, Chicago and more than 100 other cities join forces with immigrant rights groups and labor unions.

"No work, no school ... don't bank, don't buy," posters for the day that have been circulating around New York say. A plan to block the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco was scrapped by police as many believe a planned "bike block" scheduled to take place in Union Square in New York City will be scrapped as well.

"Spring has come, and this is our reawakening," said Matt Presto, a 25-year-old graduate student who has been involved in the movement since before it occupied New York City's Zuccotti Park on September 17. "We're rejuvenated, and I think this will be a display of collective force and what we're capable of."
