No Excuses: 4 Online Courses Now Eligibile for College Credit
3 months ago
Will you enroll?
The American Council on Education announced Wednesday that four classes from Coursera, a provider of online education, were similar enough to traditional college courses to be eligible for credit. It is now up to colleges and universities to decide whether or not to allow their students to replace those traditional courses taught in classrooms with the online courses. Students who want to take the free classes for the purpose of credit would have to pay a fee to take an identity-verified, proctored exam, and for a transcript to submit to the college of their choice. The Coursera classes -- including a pre-calculus class from UC Irvine, genetics and bioelectricity courses from Duke University, and a University of Pennsylvania calculus class -- are the first MOOCs (or massive open online courses) to be declared eligible.
