Ivy League school’s president heralds Oprah as an American success story
Oprah is a regular on the college commencement speaking circuit. That’s no matter to Harvard University, which on Monday announced the talk show host, entrepreneur and philanthropist will deliver its 362nd graduation address. The Ivy League school’s president, Drew Faust, heralded Oprah’s rise as a history maker. “Oprah’s journey from her grandmother’s Mississippi farm to becoming one of the world’s most admired women is one of the great American success stories,” Faust said. Oprah will join a long list of past commencement speakers that include Microsoft’s Bill Gates and author J.K. Rowling, offering wisdom and advice to Harvard’s next graduating class. In recent years, Oprah has spoken at Stanford University, Duke University and the HBCU, Spelman College. (Reuters)
