Want To Own A WiFi Network? The FCC Might Let You, Soon

Federal agency wants to dedicate airwaves for companies, entrepreneurs
Got an idea for a product or business that needs to operate on its own network? Starting next year, the Federal Communications Commission might broaden public access to WiFi networks, allowing any company or person to create services and products that require communication over long distances. The FCC won’t build or run the WiFi networks for these businesses and entrepreneurs. That’ll be up to you! Auctions for designated swaths of airwaves are expected to take place in 2014. But be warned. Major telecom giants, like AT&T and others, are opposed to this plan because they fear the public airwaves will interfere with their networks. And they’ve got the pricey lawyers to “lean” on the agency, if you get my drift. Make your voice heard, if you’re interested! The FCC is currently taking public comments on its plan.
