Report: California Spending More On Prisons Than Colleges
8 months ago
Higher education spending has gone down 13 percent since 1980.
California would rather send you to prison than to school according to a new study.
A report conducted by non-partisan public policy group California Common Sense found that since 1980, the state's higher education spending has decreased by 13 percent while spending on California's prisons and associated correctional programs has skyrocketed by 436 percent.
In addition to that, salaries for teachers have stagnated over the last 30-plus years, while salaries for corrections officers in California have increased to the point that they make more money than 50 to 90 percent of the country.
