Obese Death Row Inmate Too Fat For ‘Torturous’ Legal Injection

Ohio man convicted of killing hotel clerk scheduled for execution in January
Ronald Post, a 480-pound death row inmate in northern Ohio, wants state prison executioners to take his health into consideration ahead of his scheduled death in January. Through his lawyers, the 53-year-old Post argues that a lethal injection would cause him “torturous and lingering death,” because of his weight, vein access and scar tissue, among other reasons stated in court papers filed Friday. He is also arguing that an execution gurney might not hold him. Post was convicted and sentenced to death for shooting a hotel clerk in 1983. Inmates’ weight has come up previously in death penalty cases. (Associated Press)
