Number of Reported Sexual Assaults at Military Academies Rising

Women are coming forward
The number of sexual assaults reported by women at military academies rose by 23 percent—from 65 to 80—this year across all three U.S. military branches. According to the Pentagon, the figure rose from 33 to 52 at the Air Force, and 10 to 15 at the Army's West Point, but dropped from 22 to 13 at the Naval Academy. Sexual assault is defined as everything from "groping" to "rape." Defense officials maintain that the increase in reports is the result of a more aggressive campaign by the services to encourage victims to come forward. (NBC News)
