Study: Number of Facebook Friends Linked To Brain Size
1 year ago
The more you have, the more you know
Facebook behavior has been linked to everything from self-esteem to psychological behavior. Now its being linked to the size of your brain.
A new study has found that the more friends a person has on Facebook, the more grey matter they have in parts the brain. Grey matter is connected to the nervous system, memory and body language. Thus the study essentially says that if you have a high number of Facebook friends, you are most likely a better communicator offline too.
Somewhere a Facebook addict just got enabled.
"Our findings demonstrate that the size of an individual's online social network is closely linked to focal brain structure implicated in social cognition," researchers say.
The research was based off interviews with 125 college students who were asked about their Facebook friends while having their brains scanned. The study also included interviews with non-students and included a questionaire comparing their number of Facebook friends to real life friends.
Sounds like this "Who Has the Biggest Brain" game was a good idea after all.
