Safety first

Talking urinal-deodorizing cakes that tell men when they've had too much alcohol to drive are being installed throughout Detroit this week, according to My Fox Detroit.

A recorded message, with a woman's voice, will play reminding men who step up to the urinals to call a cab or a friend, if needed, to get home safely.

"While alcohol-related crashes, fatalities and arrests continue to decline in Michigan, drunk drivers still impact hundreds of families each year," said Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning said $10,000 were spent on the purchase of the urinal cakes which are being installed at 200 locations.

Men are arrested for drunk driving at a rate of nearly 3 times more than women. Eighty-percent of men are involved in alcohol-related fatal crashes.
