First ever electric car to win the award.
Motor Trend has officially embraced the future naming the Tesla Model S its Car of the Year. This marks the time an all-electric car has won the distinction.
"At its core, the Tesla Model S is simply a damned good car you happen to plug in to refuel," editor-at-large Angus MacKenzie wrote in an article about the award.
The Model S averages the equivalent of 74.5 miles per gallon equivalent. The four-door car can also go from a standstill to 60 miles an hour in just four seconds.
The Model S can hold up to seven people and ranges in price from $50,000 to $100,000.
