Lawmakers say bill now protects children from gay pornography
Oh, goodie! The proposed law that criminalizes certain homosexual acts in Uganda will no longer include the death penalty. Gays, lesbians and transgender people there must be thrilled! Parliamentarian David Bahati said a new version of the bill “moved away from the death penalty after considering all the issues that have been raised,” The Associated Press reports. The bill now focuses on protecting children from gay pornography, banning gay marriage, counseling gays and punishing anyone who promotes gay culture. The effort has enjoyed broad support within the African country, but strong rebuke and condemnation abroad. A vote on the bill is expected next month. (AP)
