Salute! Walmart to Sell Goods From Small, Women-Owned Businesses
2 months ago
What will you be buying?
On Thursday, just a day before International Women's Day, Walmart will launch a line of products made by small, women-owned businesses on its website. More than 200 items, from jewelry and iPad cases to coffee beans and apparel, will be sold on the "Empowering Women Together" section of the site. The items, created across nine countries including Cambodia, Haiti and the U.S., will be part of "Store for Good," a project Walmart.com is working on for products that do good for others, for consumers or for the environment. Future products may include eco-friendly items and healthier food. For now, the goods will only be sold online, not in stores. The move helps the discount department store establish itself as a leader in women's economic empowerment. It aims to double sourcing from international suppliers run by women. (Reuters)
